Just in time for National Wine and Cheese Day 2022, we have our top five wine and cheese pairings that you can enjoy on board one of our River Thames cruises. If you’re already a wine lover and want to try something new, or you’re brand new to this, keep reading to find out our favourite wine and food matches!
This year, National Wine and Cheese Day falls on 25 July, which is a Monday, so you may wish to enjoy your wine and cheese on the Saturday or Sunday before! Unless you’ve had a tough start to the week…
If you fancy trying out any of these gorgeous combos, then book your next trip on a Bateaux London cruise! We’ve got a superb selection of fine wines and selected dishes on all of our River Thames cruises.
1. Cortese
This dry white wine with a fruity undertone is best paired with a soft cheese such as goats cheese and even feta. Why not try a glass of Italian Cortese with our vegetarian dish - fresh herbs polenta, chimichurri aubergine and feta main, as part of our Platinum Cruise.
2. Pinot Grigio
This next Italian wine has a delicate taste with a fresh and fruity style. This wine’s flavourful taste of Williams pear and yellow plum makes it a great match with a mild cheese such as brie or mozzarella.
3. Chablis
Chablis has a crisp, mineral texture and its fine citrus flavours ooze sophistication. When it comes to cheese, this wine is best enjoyed with soft and creamy cheeses. You can enjoy this wine while sailing across the River Thames on our Platinum Cruise, pairing it with your deluxe cheese board platter. Yum!
4. Sauvignon Blanc
A wine of citrus, apple, pear and floral flavours combined with notes of herbs, spices and minerals. This French classic pairs extremely well with cheddar.
You can enjoy this wine alongside our cheeseboard platter, which includes a scrumptious Pitchfork Cheddar.
5. Malbec
A popular dark red wine, well known by many and one of Argentina’s most famous exports. Full of cherries and plum notes and bodied with vanilla and sweet spice flavours, this wine goes well with something quite the opposite. A strong cheese with a sharp taste but smooth body, just like our Blacksticks Blue, which rounds off our cheese board platter.
Now you know the pairings, it’s time to wine and dine that special person on a River Thames cruise with London’s best sights as your backdrop! And even if you can’t make it yourself, we’ve got a great selection of gift cards to treat someone else to a magical dining experience in the heart of London!
